Situated in Sunshine North, Furlong Park School for Deaf Children was purpose-built to deliver educational programs to Deaf children from the western and northern regions of metropolitan Melbourne and the rural fringe. We have a mix of Deaf and hearing teaching and education support staff, providing both Auslan and English language models for the students.
The school delivers an engaging learning program that is focused on students’ academic, personal and social growth. Students are met with high expectations to work towards the achievement of their individual goals.
In 2020, our school was the fortunate recipient of a $10 million grant to redevelop our building and facilities, which is due for completion late in 2022.
Our motto, ‘Empower – Enrich – Educate’, represents our philosophy of delivering effective learning programs, which support students to develop the tools to independently access the world beyond Furlong Park. We aim to cater to each individual’s learning style and needs, and value and nurture the development of their independence, confidence, self-esteem and identity.
The school learning program, which follows the Victorian Curriculum, covers a range of subject areas, with a strong emphasis on English and Mathematics. The Early Education Program, aligning with the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF), is play-based and focuses on the development of language and social skills and self-sufficiency.
