AATD (Vic) represents members who work in a variety of schools and services from birth to Year 12 including Early Intervention, Schools for the Deaf, Deaf Facilities in mainstream schools, Visiting Teachers and private providers. We welcome new members who are working within deaf education.
AATD (Vic) provides information to the general community on our website, for example, frequently asked questions, how to train as a Teacher of the Deaf, links to resources to support classroom teachers and links to related organisations.
In the members area of our website, members have access to information on a greater variety of topics and resources.
AATD (Vic) provides members with regular emails containing:
– information from a range of organisations within Deaf education and related fields to enable members to keep abreast of information which influences our field
– information about professional learning opportunities
– work opportunities within our sector
AATD (Vic) organises professional learning events. Professional learning is available to all interested educators with members subsidised at no cost or at a reduced rate.
AATD (Vic) works to respond to the needs of our members to assist in supporting deaf and hard of hearing learners and educators on a range of issues. For example, to assist schools to cater for adjustments, special provisions for assessments, and to understand the role of clarifiers, we publish Assessment & Special Provisions for Students with Hearing Loss on a yearly basis.
Members receive or have electronic access to 4 issues of the journal Deafness & Education International.
AATD (Vic) is the largest branch in Australia and is a state branch of the National Association of Australian Teachers of the Deaf (NAATD).
As a state branch and through NAATD, we participate in a range of forums and respond with submissions to advocate for the needs of children and young people with hearing loss.
The Victorian Deaf Education Network offers membership to educational professionals who lead programs that specialise in teaching children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
We respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Owners of country throughout Victoria and pay respect to the ongoing living cultures of First Peoples.
